Small Business Month
Small Business Month is an annual opportunity to highlight how local businesses shape our neighborhoods and recognize the ecosystem and support network throughout the city.
In May 2026, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Office of Small Business will launch Small Business Month, an annual opportunity to highlight how local businesses shape our neighborhoods and recognize the ecosystem and support network throughout the city. The month will feature a slate of events, resources, and curated social media content grounded in the theme “Creating Opportunities. Exploring Possibilities.” The City of Boston is home to 18,000 small businesses that employ 127,000 people and generate close to $28 billion each year.

Small Business Month Activation Grant
In celebration of Small Business Month in May 2026, the Office of Small Business launched the Small Business Month Activation Grant in February 2026. This is a grant opportunity for business supporting nonprofit organizations to create activations that provide the small business community with the resources, tools, opportunities, or engagement they need to grow, thrive, and celebrate success.
This community-led activation program provides an exciting opportunity to amplify small business support throughout the month, and bring vitality to our neighborhoods. Proposals considered included, but were not limited to: business district events, small business workshops, training sessions, panels/forums, networking, pop-ups, and markets.
Stay tuned for the announcement of Activation Grant recipients and events this spring!
