Sherrin Street Woods Urban Wild is the third largest City-owned urban wild site. The site offers local residents passive recreation and natural history education, as well as aesthetic values. The urban wild is between the MBTA commuter rail tracks and Austin Street, north of West Street.

The northern half of the site features a rocky outcrop, known as Pine Rock. The forest is comprised of mature oaks, hickory, cherry, and birch.

The southern part of the site features filled-in stream channels and wetlands. These have developed into a dense, weedy thicket of non-native, invasive shrubs and small trees. There are trails traversing the northern part of the site.

Project Budget
  • Phase 1: $600,000
  • Phase 2:  $200,000
