Winthrop Playground Addition

Winthrop Playground

Location: 43 &45 Danube St, Roxbury

Acquisition Type: Internal Transfer - Mayor's Office of Housing to Boston Parks and Recreation Department

Size: 0.14 acres

Winthrop Playground was renovated in 2024 using PARC and CPA funds. The park features playgrounds for children ages 2-5 and 5-12, a splash pad, basketball courts with a multi-use scoreboard, a tennis court, open lawn space, outdoor exercise stations, and seating and game tables. Two adjacent parcels owned by the Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH) were identified as an opportunity to expand the park during that improvement process. In 2025, ownership of these parcels was transferred from MOH to BPRD to ensure their permanent protection under Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution.
