This year, as part of Let's Play Boston, the Parks and Recreation Department is expanding the Mayor’s Cup Soccer Tournament to include a Youth Soccer Festival.
Location: Moakley Park
Tournament: Games scheduled on November 9 and 10
Opening Ceremony: November 9, from 11 - 11:30 a.m. at Saunders Stadium
Festival: November 9, from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Map: Check back before the weekend for a map of festival, tournament, and parking locations
Festival Details
The festival will take place on November 9th from 11:30-3. It will include:
- A Soccer Jamboree hosted by Soccer Without Borders for any youth who wants to join. (Details and signup below).
- Coaching training sessions for current and prospective soccer coaches. (Details and signup below).
- A Kids and Family Zone with soccer games for young ones run by the North End Athletic Association, mascots, face painting, balloon animals and food trucks.
- A Bike Town with family-friendly bike activities for kids ages 5-12. Come with your child to learn how to ride a bike, how to teach a child how to ride a bike, and practice on-bike skills! There will be a variety of fun games and activities to practice road safety at a child's scale. Kids bicycles and helmets will be provided.
Sign up for the Jamboree to play soccer with other kids from across the city.
Time: Three hour long sessions starting at 11:45, 12:45, and 1:45
Format: The Jamboree will be organized as a Dutch-style tournament: a small-sided competition where teams are randomized each game. Games last for six to eight minutes. For each goal that is scored and for a team win, each player on the team gets points. Points are recorded after each game.
Sign up for Coach education sessions to meet other coaches and learn new coaching skills.
Time: Three 45 minute sessions starting at 12:00, 1:00, and 2:00.
Details: These three educational opportunities are meant to empower coaches in Boston with the tools and knowledge to create a positive, inclusive soccer experience for all players. You can sign up for one or all of the session and are not required to have a team playing in the tournament to participate. Prospective coaches and high school students are encouraged to attend as well.
Volunteer Sign Up
In order to run a great festival and tournament we need lots of volunteers to help out! We have many different volunteer roles, you don’t have to be a soccer expert to join in.
Tournament Details
Tournament signup ended on October 11th. With more than 70 teams signed up across Competitive and Recreational Divisions (a record number!), we are expecting an exciting tournament this year. Team schedules will be emailed by November 1st. See tournament rules and brackets here. Please email rosters and direct any questions to Woodley.Auguste@boston.gov
