Roberto Gomez

East Boston Liaison

Before moving to East Boston, Roberto Gomez lived in Texas, on the border between Mexico and the U.S. in Laredo, Texas. As a child of Mexican immigrants living in the U.S., Gomez grew up between two cultures and later in life developed a passion to embrace his upbringing and the cultures of those he now surrounds himself with in East Boston.

Prior to working for the City of Boston, Gomez worked at Eastie Farm. He spent his tenure working with other nonprofits and the city to combat food insecurity and to push forth environmental justice awareness into the community. In 2021, he received the Zumix Luminary award for his dedication to the community over the years, especially during the pandemic.

As an environmentalist dedicated to the preservation of our planet, Gomez discovered a profound connection to his Mexican ancestral roots, which were rooted in the labor of field migrant workers. Tending to gardens and engaging in environmental work has not only deepened his appreciation for nature but has also allowed him to reconnect with his heritage in a meaningful way. The vibrant colors of the flowers he nurtures resonate with him on a spiritual level, evoking memories of his father's gentle voice and his grandmother's loving kisses. Through this harmonious blend of environmental stewardship and ancestral reverence, Gomez finds solace and a sense of belonging that transcends time and generations.
