Every student in Boston has math potential worth investing in. Wicked Math is the City of Boston's citywide initiative to grow that potential — inside and outside the classroom — led by Boston Public Schools, the Mayor's Office, EdVestors, The Calculus Project, and The Young People's Project, and the BPS Telescope Network.
Wicked Math opens pathways for students to grow in math at every stage — math clubs for elementary school students, summer math programming for middle and high school students, equitable access to advanced math coursework in secondary schools, and paid math mentoring positions where high school students earn income while supporting younger students' collective learning. Wicked Math also invests in teachers, building the math-specific training and support needed to ensure rigorous, engaging math instruction is deepened as a part of everyday practice across BPS.
These opportunities give students a stronger foundation to explore math and its connections to future careers, while also developing a lasting love of math and a math identity as part of who they are and what they're capable of.
