White Stadium: Construction Updates
This page provides latest updates, timelines, and key information about the demolition and construction process for the rehabilitation of White Stadium.
We recognize the importance of White Stadium as a vital community resource and are committed to managing construction thoughtfully. Our priorities are to keep the community informed and safe, minimize disruptions, and ensure efficient steady progress. To maintain safety and accessibility, existing walking paths around the construction fencing will remain open, with clearly marked construction zones to protect visitors. Adjustments to the cross-country course, reviewed and approved by sports experts, allow high school and select college meets to continue uninterrupted. Thank you for your patience and support as we bring this vision to life.

Demo and construction are expected to occur from late January 2024 to winter 2026.
COMMUNITY IMPACT MANAGEMENT
Hours of Operation & Traffic Management
- Construction Hours: Regular work hours are 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. Weekend work may occur to maintain project timelines, with advance notice provided for all activities.
- Walnut Avenue: Closed to construction vehicles and reserved for local residents. Construction traffic will use designated access points to minimize congestion.
- Pedestrian Safety: Clear signage, communication, and traffic flaggers will guide visitors around construction zones. Areas outside the fencing will remain open for public use.
- Noise Management: Noise-generating work, including underground utility activities such as hoe-ramming, will be conducted between 7am - 3pm. While no blasting is planned, all noise-related activities will follow strict safety protocols to minimize disruptions.
- Dust Control: Comprehensive measures will be in place to reduce airborne particles and maintain air quality around the site.
Park Access During Construction
- Swing Gate Management: The swing gate at White Stadium will be operated by contractors to enhance safety.
- Cross-Country Course: Adjustments ensure uninterrupted high school and college meets. See updated course details here.
- Playstead Permit Holders: Areas outside the construction fencing will remain open. To apply for a permit, please visit the Boston Parks and Recreation Reservation Page. If your event may be impacted by construction, contact us at whitestadium@boston.gov for support in finding alternative sites. A revitalized White Stadium will include upgraded amenities, including an enhanced sound system and improved infrastructure, making event planning easier. We’re excited to welcome back community events once the renovations are complete.

Minimizing Impacts on Walnut Avenue
The general construction schedule will be Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. There may be some weekend activity at different phases. Safety measures, including construction signage and fencing, will be in place year-round to ensure public safety and protect nearby trees.
Demolition Phase: Expect increased construction activity during demolition over the next two months. We will share more information about subsequent phases in the coming weeks. During this time:
Temporary Street Closures: To accommodate heavier volumes of construction vehicles during the demolition phase, Walnut Ave between Park Lane and Seaver Street will be periodically restricted to local access and use only (including local residents and visitors, deliveries, school buses, and construction vehicles) and closed to through traffic. A barricade and police detail will be in place at Walnut Ave and School Street.
BPS School Bus Updates: Adjustments are being made to safely accommodate pick up and drop off activities at the Rafael Hernandez Elementary School. BPS families at the Hernandez will receive detailed notice.
- Buses will continue to use School St, for pick up/drop off
- Families will be directed to Dixwell St for pick up/drop off
Neighborhood Traffic Calming Adjustments:
- Temporary shift of the center line between #435 Walnut Ave & Iffley Rd to create temporary, wider travel lanes for heavy duty trucks.
- Temporary one-way conversion of Peter Parley Road from Forest Hills St. to Walnut Ave.
- Local access only to Glen Rd and Sigourney St, Robeson St, Peter Parley Rd and Iffley Rd. Additional signage will be deployed to keep through traffic on Forest Hills Street and Washington Street.
- Expand the existing “Do Not Enter” restriction on School Street at Dixwell Street from 8am to 9am to 7am to 9am. Traffic will be detoured to Dixwell Street (except local traffic and BPS buses).
Temporary Parking Restrictions: Throughout the course of demolition phase temporary parking restrictions will occur:
- West side of Walnut Ave between Park Lane and Montebello Road (5 spaces)
- East side of Walnut Ave between #435 Walnut and Iffley Rd (8 spaces)
