John Amodeo
John is a Commissioner for both the Boston Landmarks Commission and the South End Landmark District Commission. John joined our team in 1996. That's over 20 years as a Commissioner, how lucky are we! John said that he originally moved to Boston because of its historic fabric and he subsequently volunteered as a commissioner to preserve the City's history. When John isn't at a BLC or SELDC hearing he works as a Landscape Architect in Boston. John says that our work is so important because "the BLC enables economic development to proceed apace, but with an eye toward preserving & adaptive reuse of historic fabric, and building new construction in harmony with the historic fabric." He says that he is gratified every time the BLC gets to designate a property as a Boston Landmark but he is specifically gratified when "the BLC is able to successfully collaborate with a developer or property owner to prevent demolition and adapt a historic property to serve current needs while preserving history for present and future generations." In his nearly 37 years as a Boston resident, John enjoys visiting the Boston Public Garden and historic Beacon Hill the most. Thank you for your long-time service to our Commissions John, you're the best!
