Assistant Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures

Elaine Vieira has resided in East Boston her entire life. She attended Newbury College where she earned an associate degree in accounting. She started working at the City of Boston 19 years ago as a clerk in the Weights and Measures Department at Inspectional Services. Eight months later she became a Deputy Sealer for the Department of Weights and Measures. After 17 years she was promoted to Assistant Commissioner/Sealer of the Weights and Measures Department.

As Assistant Commissioner, she is responsible for the management and daily operation of the Weights and Measures Division. Her along with 6 Deputies are responsible for enforcing the Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to Weights and Measures. These include sealing, testing and condemning of all weighing and measuring devices and enforcing all laws pertaining to consumer pricing, net weight, motor fuel, heating oil or any other transaction determined by weight or measure.

She is on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Weights and Measures Association, a member of the Northeastern Weights and Measures and also a member of the National Conference on Weights and Measures.
