Weaving Well-being
An initiative to support immigrant community-driven wellness and mental health.
Grant applications are currently open until Thursday, January 16, at 4 p.m.
About
MOIA launched the "Mental Health Mini-Grants" initiative in 2022 to respond directly to the priorities of Boston’s immigrant communities, which identified mental health as one of their highest priorities during COVID-19. In its inaugural year (2022-2023), MOIA provided $70,000 in funding to seven immigrant-led and –serving organizations seeking to promote Boston immigrant residents’ well-being and destigmatize mental health in immigrant communities through non-clinical, culturally and linguistically sensitive interventions. Since then, the program has continued to grow to 18 partner organizations during the 2023-2024 cycle, and 21 organizations in the 2024-2025 cycle.
The primary objectives of Weaving Well-being are to:
- Promote Well-being and Enhance Wellness: Foster initiatives that contribute to the overall well-being and wellness of immigrant populations in Boston.
- Destigmatize Mental Health: Work towards reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues within immigrant communities.
- Support Culturally and Linguistically Sensitive Practices: Encourage the use of non-clinical approaches that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for immigrant populations.
- Reduce Escalation of Mental Health Conditions: Address mental health challenges at an early stage to prevent their escalation and reduce their severity.
- Build Organizational Capacity: Strengthen the programmatic and organizational capacity of grassroots, immigrant-led nonprofits that typically do not receive substantial donor support.
- Empower Community through Grantmaking and Research: Shift power dynamics by empowering immigrant communities through strategic grantmaking and research initiatives.
