Mayor Wu announced a heat emergency in the City of Boston through Wednesday, July 17. Cooling centers will be open at 14 BCYF community centers Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Vania Pereira

Immigrant Youth Organizer

As the Immigrant Youth Organizer, Vania oversees the Immigrant Youth Advancement Program. 

Vania has over 6 years of experience working with immigrant youth in education settings. Her goal is to highlight the unique experiences of immigrant youth while bringing awareness of their needs as well as their contributions and providing support and resources. In her graduate program, she conducted research on the parallels of mass incarceration and mass deportation and its effects on black and brown bodies. Vania also participated in the Immigrant Student Research Project where she examined the experiences of immigrant students at the intersection of the educational pipeline during their entry into the workforce. 

Vania is originally from Cape Verde and moved to Boston at the age of 9. In her leisure time, you will find Vania napping, playing squash, and painting.  

Vania holds a Bachelor's Degree in Global and Business Studies from Providence College and a Master’s Degree in American Studies from Brown University. She is fluent in Cape Verdean Creole and Portuguese.
