About the Program
Prepare your home for winter with Boston’s Seniors Save program. If you're 60 or older, you can receive up to $12,000 in grants—plus in-house contractor support—to repair or replace an aging heating system. Need additional funding? 0% interest, deferred loans are available to cover the rest of project costs.
Please note: Heating systems that have already been replaced are not eligible for the program. Seniors Save is not a reimbursement program.
Who is eligible?
To participate in the Seniors Save program, homeowners must:
- Own and occupy a 1-4 family home in Boston
- Be at least 60 years of age
- Have a household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income (or 120% if you live in Allston or Brighton). If you live in a multi-family home, at least 50 percent of the residents must be low or moderate income.
- Be current on City accounts, including property taxes, mortgage payments, and water bills

You will need to submit the following with your application:
- Income documentation for all household members (recent pay stubs, tax returns, benefit statements).
- Documentation of household financial assets.
- Proof that you are current on property taxes, mortgage, and water bills.
Submit your completed application and supporting documents to the Boston Home Center. Staff will review your application, verify your income and eligibility, and confirm the project scope.

A Boston Home Center Project Manager will contact you and a Construction Specialist will schedule a visit to your home to inspect your heating system and determine costs to fix it. Once you are approved for funding, we will set up the repair work on your home and make sure it is inspected when the job is finished.
Most repairs will be fully covered by the grant. If you access the 0% deferred loan, you must pay it in full if you move, sell, refinance, or transfer the title of your home.
