Elizabeth Sherva

Deputy Director

Elizabeth Sherva joins the City of Boston’s Preservation Team as the Deputy Director of the Office of Historic Preservation. She also serves as the Executive Director of the Boston Landmarks Commission.

Prior to her arrival at the City, Elizabeth was Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer and Director of Architectural Review at the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC). During her 14 years at the MHC she collaborated with all divisions of the agency, including Preservation Planning, Archaeology, and the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund. As Director of Architectural Review, she reviewed and commented on thousands of state and federal projects being reviewed under state and federal historic preservation laws. She also oversaw the Massachusetts Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit program and coordinated the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives projects with the National Park Service (NPS).

Elizabeth volunteered with the Roslindale Village Main Streets where she served on the board of directors for nine years. While on the board she focused her time working to save and successfully redevelop the 1911 Roslindale Substation.

Elizabeth received her M.A. degree in Preservation Studies from Boston University, and her B.A. degree in Environmental Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota.

Originally from Minnesota, Elizabeth and her husband Rick moved to Roslindale in 2008. They have two children who were born in Boston and call themselves Bostonians. In her spare time you will find Elizabeth shopping at the Roslindale Farmers Market, coaching softball, or volunteering at one of the schools her children attend.
