Our group celebrates the power of music to connect, inspire, and build community among City of Boston employees. As a City of Boston employee resource group, our mission is to lead by example by:
- Promoting the joy of music as a means of cultural expression and personal connection
- Supporting colleagues in discovering new sounds, genres, and musical traditions
- Advocating for inclusive spaces where music can foster learning, creativity, and belonging within the City workforce
About our group
The Music ERG at City Hall is a community of music enthusiasts dedicated to fostering connection, cultural appreciation, and shared experiences through the power of music. We bring employees together for listening parties, educational sessions, and conversations that explore the rich and diverse sounds of the United States and beyond. Through music, we aim to inspire, build camaraderie, and celebrate the universal language that unites us all.
Our Goals:
- Curate Listening Experiences – Organize themed listening sessions that explore different genres, cultures, and historical movements in music.
- Host Educational Workshops – Invite guest speakers, musicians, or historians to discuss the impact of music on society, activism, and culture.
- Foster Cross-Departmental Connections – Use music as a way to bring together employees from different departments, strengthening relationships and collaboration.
- Create Collaborative Playlists – Encourage members to contribute to shared playlists that reflect diverse tastes and backgrounds.
- Support Local & Live Music – Organize outings to Boston-based concerts, festivals, or open mic nights to celebrate the city's rich musical scene.
- Recognize Music’s Role in Well-being – Highlight how music can support mental health, relaxation, and workplace morale.
- Celebrate Cultural Heritage Months Through Music – Showcase music that reflects the cultural significance of different heritage months.
- Encourage Employee Musical Expression – Provide opportunities for employees who play instruments, sing, or DJ to share their talents in a supportive space.
