Renew Boston Trust Phase II

Renew Boston Trust is a self-financing model to make City buildings more energy efficient and cost effective

About

In Phase 2, Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) were installed in 31 buildings chosen in the project scope:

  • six libraries
  • 10 fire stations
  • seven police facilities
  • three parks facilities
  • one property management facility, and
  • four community centers.

Phase 2, like Phase 1, included:

  • installing newer high efficiency equipment
  • upgrading existing equipment, and
  • retro-commissioning.

Utilities at these 31 facilities cost $3,244,918 per year. Phase 2 upgrades will result in $415,405 in guaranteed savings for the first full year after construction is complete. Annual dollar savings pay for the cost of installation and implementation of the ECMs.

Dollar Savings

Dollar Savings Phase 2 Edit 2
This is a chart showing the guaranteed savings per department. The 6 departments and the 31 facilities in Phase 2 achieved $415,405 in total guaranteed savings per year. To view an accessible version of this chart, please click here.

Energy Savings

Energy Savings Phase 2 Edit 3

This chart shows the energy savings in MMBtu per year achieved by each department in Phase 2. One MMBTu is equivalent to a million British thermal units. One British thermal unit is the standard unit of energy necessary to increase the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit at standard atmospheric pressure. The total guaranteed energy savings for Phase 2 projects is 10,763 MMBtu per year. The Boston Fire Department, Boston Public Library, and the Boston Police Department achieve the highest energy savings among Phase 2 projects. Emissions Savings

Emissions Savings Phase 3

Phase 2 projects save 996 MTCO2e/yr. MTCO2e/yr signifies metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent released per year. This is a unit that represents the global warming potential of all greenhouse gasses emitted by combustion in buildings. The unit is standardized to CO2: the most common greenhouse gas. The greatest greenhouse gas emissions savings in Phase 2 were achieved by the Boston Fire Department, the Property Management Department, and the Boston Public Library.
