Sam Brenner

Transportation Technology Strategist

Born and raised in Boston, Sam Brenner works to improve urban mobility in the City he has always called home.  Sam's work is guided by his belief in data-driven strategies and new technology to make urban transportation systems more efficient and reliable for all.

Before joining the City of Boston's Emerging Technology team, Sam served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and then transitioned to a product management career in the private sector.  His private sector experience includes work in transportation, social media, and building AI tools for small businesses.   Sam also holds a Master's in Public Policy from Northeastern University's School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs.  His graduate school research focused on transportation and data Systems and included:

  • Policy analysis of the City of Boston's digital 311 services and equity in service delivery.
  • Transportation feasibility study for new MBTA Ferry Service routes between Boston and Chelsea.
  • Traffic flow analysis and risk assessment of international ocean freight services.

Sam lives in West Roxbury with his wife and son.  He currently serves on the Mayor's SPARK Boston Council and is a volunteer coach at the Parkway Youth Wrestling Club.
