Housing Affordability

The City of Boston seeks to ensure all residents are housed with equitable access to safe and affordable communities.

The FY27 budget continues core programming in housing affordability and stability. The Mayor's Office of Housing provides a wide range of programming for Bostonians with differing housing needs.

Housing Affordability

The FY27 budget continues core programming across Boston’s housing initiatives. The City Voucher Program creates rental opportunities for lower-income residents and the Boston Home Center sustains its Down Payment Assistance, HomeWorks, OnePlus, and Accessory Dwelling Unit programs. The Supportive Housing Program also continues funding opportunities for homeless young adults.

The budget also includes supportive housing production, senior housing production, the Small Developer Fund, and Tenants at Risk. As in previous years, The Mayor’s Office of Housing will leverage federal and state funds along with private contributions to create and maintain housing affordability.

Finally, the FY27-FY31 Capital Plan will provide $82 million to BHA to support ongoing work at the Bunker Hill and Mildred C. Hailey housing developments. The plan also includes $4 million to improve elevators at BHA sites, increasing accessibility.
