FY21 Capital Budget

Learn more about the City's long term investments supported by the Capital Budget.

The FY21-FY25 Capital Plan totals $3.0 billion. It includes over 300 projects to be started or completed over the next five years. The capital budget is the spending we expect for projects starting during the first year of the plan.

  • The Capital Plan is a multi-year plan for acquiring or improving physical assets we own and the means for financing the work.
  • Capital projects can include many different kinds of projects, from construction of schools and libraries to renovations of recreation centers and bridges.
  • We fund the Capital Plan through bonds we sell, other city funds, and grants (state, federal, or private).

Imagine Boston 2030 is the first city-wide master plan in 50 years and defines a vision for Boston leading up to its 400th birthday and beyond.
