Age Strong Grant Opportunities

Age Strong works with many community and nonprofit partners to provide programs and services to Boston's older adults. 

We currently run four different grant programs:

  • One through the Older Americans Act funding
  • Two through the City of Boston funding: Expanding Engagement and Behavioral Health.
  • One Through State Council on Aging funding: Age Strong's Rolling Grant

Expanding Engagement Grantees

Organization Name Brief Grant Description
Rogerson Communities Hosting an event, the Winter Social Summer Beach Party, which will be held indoors at Rogerson's Beacon House community room in March. Event will have games, food, decorations, raffle prizes, etc.
Public Education Services Inc Panel discussions across various older adult spaces in Boston centered on storytelling and Q&A. Panelists will be part of the LGBTQ+ community and will share their personal stories about family, coming out, transitioning, discrimination, and other current issues that are relevant.
Central Boston Elder Services, Inc. Provide ethnic blockbuster movie nights (in Chinese, Russian, Spanish and other languages) at BHA buildings in CBES' catchment area,as well as bi-weekly movie nights at CBES' office in Roxbury. Funding would also be used for transportation to the movie nights and meals at each movie night.
Whittier Street Health Center PeaceFull Hands Sewing Group, a weekly sewing group tailored to older adult patients of the health center.
North End Community Health Committee Inc. Expand NEW Health’s older adult programming through a Spring Zumba series and health education sessions that promote physical wellness, healthy aging, and social connection.
1975: A Vietnamese Diaspora Memorial The applicant requests Level 1 funding for an arts-based project that would strengthen community and reduce isolation. The project allows for self-expressions and story sharing across generations.
Masjid Al Quran, Inc Bridges of Barakah includes Weekly Qur’an & Wisdom Circles, Monthly Skill‑Sharing Workshops, Bi‑Weekly Wellness Activities, Intergenerational Service Projects to offered structured opportunities for elders to share their wisdom, cultural traditions, and life experiences while benefiting from the energy, support, and companionship of younger generations.
Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Home Buddy Project, an initiative to reduce social isolation and foster community among older adults. Programming includes indoor events at the Tzu Chi Boston Service Center on the first Tuesday of every month (health/wellness talks, arts and craft workshops, interactive group activities). The program will also include two seasonal outdoor activities (apple picking and the Peabody Essex Museum/MFA), and two community movie outings.
Mission Hill Health Movement The organization proposes multiple programs throughout the year that would promote connectivity among the older adults in the community, including artful meditation and day trips.
Museum of Fine Arts Expand accessible tours in languages other than English, such as Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole and enable translation of marketing materials into more languages. Offer wheelchair-accessible tables to facilitate art-making and post-tour discussions that encourage deeper reflection.
FriendshipWorks, Inc. The organization will build community through music and pet visitations at The Pryde and bring local musicians of various cultures and genres to senior housing in the city of Boston.
Hawthorne Youth and Community Center Inc Gardening, sustainability, community health, & physical activity. The project would strengthen community while growing fresh produce and meaningful relationships.
Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, Inc. Bus trips for older adults from Villa Victoria, Robert Fortes, and Neponset to tour Boston and Cambridge. Plan to partner with Urbanity Dance to teach 4 classes/month at Villa Victoria focusing on chair movement. Plan to partner with Silvina Ibanez to teach 3 series of classes focusing on ceramics.
Urbanity Dance Weekly dance classes for older adults that focus on mobility, strength, and flexibility, including Dancing with Parkinsons and Age Thrive. Also offering classes in Mandarin.
La Alianza Hispana, Inc. Life-coach workshops focused on empowerment and social connection and field trips across Greater Boston that foster community bonding, volunteerism, and connection to the city. Activities will include art and craft sessions, games, raffles, intergenerational programs, and visits to places such as the Boston Public Library and local community gardens.
Multicultural AIDS Coalition, Inc. (for LGBT Elders of Color) Expand and stabilize its existing hybrid programming. Includes monthly “flash-back cafes,” virtual workshops, and seasonal large-scale gatherings.
Wakullah Street Community Garden, Inc Engage older adults in outdoor activities such as cooking classes, outdoor competitions, poetry and music nights, outdoor movie nights and our more popular historical tour of Boston.
Maverick Landing Community Services Inc Community-based healing and wellness programs and intergenerational activities. Activities susch as Mandela yoga, zumba, Reiki, cooking classes, etc.
Veronica Robles Cultural Center Weekly dance classes, introduce a Latin Mix Dance, Ballet, and Zumba classes designed for older adults. Additional offerings include arts and crafts, healthy cooking workshops, storytelling circles, wellness seminars, cultural field trips, special outings, a women's self-defense series, and bingo events.
Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. Funding for small group activities such as exercise programs, reminiscence groups, and artful meditation groups. The groups will include more language support in Haitian Creole and increased outreach efforts.
Haley House, Inc. This project offers a Take Back the Kitchen cooking program which address food insecurity, cultural identity, and social isolattion. Seasonal farm-based gatherings to promote social connection.
Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center Programming at the Pao Arts Center for older adults in Chinatown. Programming would be once a week for 3 hours and include free lunches, games, arts and crafts, and other culturally relevant activities. Programming would be offered in Chinese Dialects (Cantonese, Mandarin and Toisanese).
Boston Project Ministries, Inc. Getting Connected program provides one-on-one and small-group digital tutoring and AI education, Tea Time, a monthly gathering focused on conversation and belonging, Move & Connect, offering accessible movement and wellness activities, and Generations Exchange with four intergenerational skill-sharing events that strengthen bonds across ages.
Cape Verdean Association of Boston Wellness checks, provide home visits in senior housing, and offer monthly workshops focused on nutrition, food safety, and healthy cooking.
East Boston Social Centers Funding is being used to support their Active Adults program, which aims to reduce isolation among older adults by offering consistent opportunities for social connection, physical activity, and shared experiences. Funding is supporting accessible wellness classes like chair yoga and Qigong, a social bowling league, and cultural outings such as a trip to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
Jamaica Plain Community Connections Coalition dba Tree of Life Weekly Wellness and Music Therapy classes at Julia Martin House and the Nate Smith House. In addition, each site will host social engagement sessions, including arts and crafts, dominoes, and manicure socials.
Sherrill House Proposal for grant funding for both off-site and on-site “field trips” at Sherrill House. Off-site trips may include visiting Castle Island, Franklin Park Zoo, the Museum of Science, and the Museum of Fine Arts. On-site programs may include visits from Barn Babies, Goldy’s Farm & Animal Sanctuary, Animal Adventures, and Paint the Town.
Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) of Greater Boston, Inc. Expand and enhance culturally responsive Social, Education, and Wellness programming for older adults. Offerings include structured social programs (e.g. regular onsite gatherings and off-site trips), workshops on health-related topics, and expansion of wellness programs.
Pine Street Inn, Inc. Social engagement opportunities for older adults living across four supportive housing sites. Funding will support food, program supplies, and transportation events including community meals, coffee hours, game nights, bingo, art activities, cooking classes, and movie nights. These programs are delivered in shared building spaces and supported by transportation for residents at different buildings
LGBTQ Senior Housing, Inc. Luncheons and smaller gatherings (coffee hours, breakfasts, etc.) throughout the grant period which will be paired with an hour-long post-lunch LGBTQ+ focused engagement program. The project aims to reach LGBTQ+ and allied residents from the surrounding area. Goal to allow for virtual attendance for those who cannot attend the program in-person.
Wally's Cafe Student to Student Music Project and Jam Session, Inc. Hosting music sessions in senior housing, and combining live music with shared meals and conversation.
Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center Dementia Engagement Program, which includes 4 main components: culturally tailored dementia education workshops for families, in-language caregiver support groups, dementia-friendly music therapy in partnership with Berklee College of Music, and a monthly Memory Café that provides structured social, cognitive, and sensory engagement.
DotHouse Health Inc Expand and enhance their Senior Day Program in Fields Corner. Activities will include movement classes (tai chi, strethcing, dance), wellness sessions, technology support, cultural celebrations, and enrichment workshops (arts/crafts, cooking, storytelling).
Boston Housing Authority Expansion of current Wellness Connect program to meet the needs of bilingual older-adult residents living in BHA public housing. Offers a rotating schedule of social programming, activities, workshops and one-off events for residents at each identified site.
Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly - Boston Inc This program creates four hubs that would be at the center of new and deeper programming, expanding LBFE's Creative Connections. Offering social connections through creative arts programming at hub sites and additional sites.
Southwest Boston Senior Services Inc (Ethos) Senior Center Pilot Program in West Roxbury to maintain offering three days of programming per week. The senior center offers a variety of programming and events including fitness and wellness classes, workshops, music, art, storytelling, technology tutoring, and lunch.

Behavioral Health Grantees

Organization Name Brief Grant Description
2Life Communities Inc. Funding for their "culture, connection, capacity" program at their Brighton campus. This progam provides coordinated, culturally accessible behavioral health and wellness programs and services for older adults such as psychosocial educational opportunities and expressive arts therapies. The program will also include training for staff on culturally responsive behavioral health practices.
Irish Pastoral Centre Support for bereavement groups led by an LICSW. Bereavement groups will be held over six-week sessions, and staff will support with necessary referrals to resources/services outside of the group.
North End Community Health Committee Funding to implement in-home psychotherapy for 20 homebound older adults, a new psychotherapy group for 8-10 older adults and specialized training for NEW Health’s behavioral health staff on age-specific best practices, including cognitive changes, grief, trauma, chronic disease burden, and the impacts of social isolation on mental health.
Boston Medical Center Corporation Funding for their LICSW and Geriatric Psychiatrist to continue supporting and enrolling unhoused older adults to in-home/in-community mental health clinical supports and increase the current caseload of 10 older adults. Staff will meet with clients in spaces that they prefer (in-home, shelter, a community space, etc.) to deliver services.
Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) Funding to continue their current program that has a lawyer/social worker and social work intern assist with cases in their housing unit. The program provides non-legal support services to older adults who present with mental health needs through assistance with resource navigation, conducting assessments to identify barriers to housing stability, providing crisis intervention, referrals to services, emotional support, and advocacy. They hope to expand the program to other legal units and implement a referral system.
Pine Street Inn, Inc. Funding to support the salaries for staffing costs for their Senior Stabilization team . The team includes three housing clinicians and one crisis support clinician, and seeks to add the Clinical Supervisor for Housing Clinical Services. This team supports older adults at sites in the South End, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain. The team ensures that Pine Street Inn staff and tenants receive clinical support and services necessary to address and prevent crises and support housing stability. This may include addressing hoarding behaviors, developing crisis plans, facilitating support groups, etc.
Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center Funding to support the continuation, capacity-building, and targeted expansion of their behavioral health access & navigation program. The funding will stabilize core services established in 2025, reduce waitlists, and ensure continuity of care for the older adults who are part of the program. Services include BH screenings and assessments, evidence-based one-to-one interventions delivered by CHWs, Group-based Psychoeducation and support, individual clinical services, and BH navigation and follow-up.
Community Caring Clinic, Inc Funding to continue and expand their current BH grant program to serve older adults. The program will assess older adults and provide direct services to older adults who will receive BH services (assessment, diagnosis and treatment), and older adults will be assessed for psychosocial needs and receive appropriate assistance.
Southwest Boston Senior Services d/b/a Ethos Funding supports staff salaries for its Behavioral Health Outreach for Aging Populations (BHOAP) program. BHOAP is an initiative intending to provide assessments and care plans for older adults in crisis. Services offered include counseling, care coordination to community resources, and referrals. Funding will cover the salary of their bilingual Behavioral Health Specialist to address cultural and language barriers for Spanish-speaking older adults, student interns, and a consultant providing supervision for the interns.
