Age Strong designations

We are a City Department, Council on Aging and a federally-funded Area Agency on Aging.

As an Area Agency on Aging (AAA), we receive federal funding through the Older Americans Act (OAA). Through this funding, we support many programs and services across the City of Boston.

About Area Agencies on Aging

Our focus

In 1972, the Older Americans Act established Area Agencies on Aging. The goal is to help people live independently in their communities. We achieve this through a process that includes:

  1. assessment of community-specific needs
  2. service planning, and
  3. service delivery.

Click here to read our Area Plan for 2022-2025.

Supporting the community

The Age Strong Commission, as an Area Agency on Aging, delivers some direct services, including information and direct help. We also partner with a network of nonprofit organizations across the City to meet the diverse needs of our vibrant community.
