All Boston youth and families are invited to join us for a family-friendly bike party to celebrate the opening of Bike Town at Moakley Park, a new place in Boston where kids can practice riding, rolling, and walking in a fun and safe environment. The celebration will take place at Moakley Park across Day Blvd from the Carson Beach Bath House and feature:

  • Free ice cream and music
  • Free bike and helmet rentals for kids
  • Bike demonstrations and activities
  • A short ribbon-cutting ceremony

This event is a collaboration between the Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics, the Mayor's Office of Early Childhood Education, the Boston Parks Department, and Boston Harbor Now.

ABOUT BIKE TOWN

Biking helps kids explore their neighborhood, have fun, and grow. In an effort to make Boston a more family-friendly city and increase road safety for children, the City of Boston is creating fun and safe places where kids can develop their bike riding skills and road safety awareness. Bike Town is a small-sized street network, sometimes called a “traffic garden”, where kids can learn and practice riding bikes in a safe, car-free and delightful environment. These miniature streets can help:

  • Teach children essential bike-riding skills to promote active and safe transportation
  • Educate community members, especially children, about road safety practices
  • Increase children’s confidence in their ability to safely navigate city streets
