The Department of Neighborhood Development would like to thank everyone who attended the community meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Mildred Ave. Community Center. The turnout was good and we received some excellent feedback. Based on the feedback we received, we feel there is support for building 2 single family homes on Violet Street and for building 2 two-family homes at 523 Norfolk Street. We understand that we must work with The Boston Transportation Department to help solve the traffic flow and parking problems. We will also work with The Department Of Public Works to address the sidewalk and street situation. The Powerpoint presentation from the June 30 meeting has been added to the Co-Urbanize site. Take advantage of this site for further updates on this project and to add your own comments and questions.

As we discussed at the Community Meeting on Tuesday June 30th, the Neighborhood Homes Initiative (NHI) is a new initiative resulting from Mayor Walshs Boston 2030 Housing Plan. It represents a significant commitment to promote mixed-income communities and expand affordable homeownership opportunities for first-time homebuyers priced out of todays housing market. To achieve this objective, the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) will be making packages of developable parcels available for builders to create affordably-priced well-designed homes. Homes built under this initiative will be equally divided in each neighborhood into one of three levels of affordability - Moderate, Middle, and Market. The Moderate Income and Middle Income affordable homes will be deed restricted, and sold at a price that is affordable to families who make no more than $65,000 (for the Moderate Income homes) to $85,000 (for the Middle Income homes). The Market Rate homes will be sold without restriction.
