Philbrick-Sumner Merger And Irving Renovation

Combining the schools will consolidate resources to invest in expanded academic and enrichment opportunities and inclusion. The FY24 Capital Plan proposal included $90.8 million to renovate the Irving building. The Irving renovation construction began in the fall of 2023.

New School Name

At the community meeting on December 17, 2024, proponents presented their name suggestions to the Joint School Site Council and School Leaders. Seven names were selected to move forward. We invited all Philbrick and Sumner community members to vote on their top three name suggestions from then until late-January. The final three will be presented to the Joint School Site Council and School Leaders for final deliberation before bringing the ultimate choice to the Boston School Committee for a vote. We hosted a Joint School Leader and School Site Council Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 6 p.m. on Zoom. The School Site Councils voted on Sarah Roberts Elementary School, which was voted on by the Boston School Committee on Wednesday March 19, 2025 and approved unanimously!
